Gallery Trax was founded in 1993, at the foot of Yatsugatake in Hokuto City. The brainchild of interior designer Jiro Kimura (1947–2004) and designer Etsuko Miyoshi, the building was renovated by Kimura himself, and he crafted furniture from repurposed construction wood. Trax is distinctive not only for its location or atmosphere but also because it has served as an exhibition space for artists such as Jun Tsunoda, Tomoo Gokita, Katsumi Omori, Yayoi Deki, Rinko Kawauchi, and others. Open to natural air and light, the space and the works it contains seem to breathe. Filled with furniture, sketches, installation views, and personal recollections, this book pays tribute to a magical place.
